Contains biographical sketch of James Varick, the founder and first Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion (A.M.E.Z.) Church, to help outsiders understand the church's history and the conditions at the time in which Varick lived. It also contains sketches of his family and includes portraits of the family members mentioned.
